TESTED. MERRELL TRAIL GLOVE RUNNING SHOE.

Barefoot, minimalistic, chi running. All pretty common buzzwords these days in the running and outdoor world. More then being the latest fad,  running shoes within this “barefoot” genre are building a lot of steam with active folks.

Without giving too much background on the technology/theories, there is a great deal of info out there on the merits of using a running shoe that allows the foot find its own natural path of forefoot striking when contacting the ground as opposed to a cushioned running shoe that directs the foot into a heel strike position.

Film Release – Wilderness Quest with Kevin Callan

28 Feb

Join Kevin Callan and Wild Rock at the Gordon Best Theater – Fri March 23rd 2012

Exclusive viewing of The Happy Camper’s Wilderness Quest Film!

Does wilderness still exist?

That is the question that sparks a paddling journey in search of wilderness.  Set in Quetico Provincial Park, canoe author Kevin Callan paddles the park in search of wilderness and an understanding of its value.  Packed with humourous scenes highlighting common canoe-tripping misadventures, the one hour film explores one of Canada’s largest wilderness parks viewing its changing environments, wildlife, remoteness and scenic splendors.

The result, Callan uncovers strong evidence to suggest that not only does wilderness still exist, but perhaps it means more to us now than ever.

Well-known paddler, Kevin Callan, embarked on this canoe trip with film producer Kip Spidell.  Together they paddled throughout the park for 28 days, shooting over 25 hours of high definition broadcast quality film footage.  Along the way, an assortment of paddlers were interviewed, including a naturalists group from Michigan, a family from southern  Ontario, a newlywed couple from Manitoba, anglers from Wisconsin, seniors from Florida, a youth group from New York and junior rangers from Northern Ontario.  The diversity of people encountered solidifies the thriving desire for wilderness protection, enhancement and enjoyment.

The film is in association with Birchbark Media – a Peterborough based social media, web marketing company owned by Scott Adams.

Kevin’s bio
Kevin Callan is the author of thirteen books, including the best selling
“The Happy Camper”, the incredibly popular series of paddling guides, and
most reviewed “Wilderness Pleasures: A Practical Guide to Camping Bliss”.
On a regular basis, he presents across North America and has been a key
speaker at all the major canoe events for over 25 years.
Callan is also a frequent guest on radio and television, and field editor
for Explore. His writing and photography appears in Canadian Geographic
and Ontario Nature and he writes a regular column for Canoeroots Magazine.
Callan has hosted several pilots and assisted with BBC, Ray Mears, and the
Discovery Channel in film projects. He is also a frequent host on a number
of morning shows and hosts his own CBC Radio show coast to coast titled
“The Happy Camper”. He is a winner of five National Magazine Awards and
three film awards.  He was also made Patron Paddler for Paddle Canada.
